Detroit Auto Show Fans Joked The Place Was A Dumpster Fire, Someone Took It Literally

- An arsonist has set a fire at Huntington Place in Detroit.
- Damage was reportedly minor and no one was hurt.
- The event center is home to the Detroit Auto Show.
The Detroit Auto Show has disintegrated into a dumpster fire that’s not worth attending, but one person took that metaphor a little too far. As a result, they started a fire at Huntington Place.
The incident reportedly occurred on April 28th around 9 am, but city officials are just getting around to announcing it to local media. While the police and fire departments couldn’t be bothered to post details or video to social media where people could actually see it, the entire incident was caught on security camera.

As you can see in footage released to local stations, a man dressed entirely in black walked into a hall and swung a plastic bottle filled with flammable liquid. He then pulls another bottle out of a black bag and repeats the process.
The suspect then briefly disappears behind a corner, before remerging and lighting what appears to be a piece of paper. He then tosses it onto the carpeting, which quickly catches on fire.
Additional details are limited, but no one was hurt and the fire only did “minimal damage.” Authorities are now asking for the public’s help in finding the man responsible.
It remains unclear if police will catch the person responsible, but Huntington Place is best known as the home of the Detroit Auto Show. However, that event has seen a major downturn as a mere 275,000 visitors attended in 2025. Organizers didn’t release figures for this year, which could mean even fewer people turned up.
Besides the once popular auto show, Huntington Place hosts a series of other events. Among the upcoming festivities is Sneaker Con, Auto-Sens Detroit, and the Movement Electronic Music Festival.
