Toyota GR’s Secret Texas Garage Has Been Preparing Lexus Dealers For A $200,000 Supercar

  • Toyota built a secret Texas garage to prepare Lexus dealers for GR.
  • The facility revolves around the upcoming 641-hp GR GT supercar.
  • More than 100 Lexus dealers have already signed up to sell GR cars.

Toyota hinted for years that a new supercar was headed to production. Last year, it shows us the new Lexus LFA and the new GR GT, both in prototype form. What it didn’t tell anyone was that, secretly, it built a performance base of operations in Texas, of all places. There, it housed some of the brand’s most important racers from over the years. Today, it’s where Toyota is training Lexus dealers to drive, appreciate, and sell its most ambitious performance vehicles.

Situated just 20 miles away from its North American headquarters in Plano, Texas, the automaker built a 36,000-foot “GR Experience Center” with one mission in mind: get Lexus dealers ready to sell a new performance brand. For several months, it sat there with no branding on the outside, but Toyota’s GR GT cloaked secretly inside.

According to Auto News, scores of Lexus dealers from around the country have already toured the facility. Inside, Toyota has created what sounds like a cross between a private racing museum and a driver training center.

The centerpiece is the GR GT itself, a supercar expected to arrive in the U.S. in 2027 with at least 641 hp (478 kW) and 627 lb-ft (850 Nm) from a twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V8 and an electric motor. Toyota expects it to cost more than $200,000.

Surrounding it are some of Toyota’s most important performance machines, including two Lexus LFAs, a 1967 Toyota 2000GT, Ivan Stewart’s Baja 1000-winning truck, and the 2003 Team Penske Indy 500 winner. There are race engines on the walls, a slot-car track hanging from the ceiling, and even a small theater devoted to Toyota’s racing history.

Toyota is also building a separate GR Academy at Eagles Canyon Raceway, where dealers and eventually customers will learn to drive GR models on track, autocross courses, and even rally stages. At right around an hour from the GR Garage, it’ll serve as the perfect way to showcase what the brand can do statically and dynamically.

Over 100 Lexus dealers have taken an initial step toward selling Toyota’s new GR brand. It is not a casual commitment either, as each location will need to carve out a dedicated space tailored specifically for GR models. Clearly, the emphasis isn’t on everyday consumers but those with the cash to splash on a very fast, very unique vehicle.

This new revelation just shows how far Toyota is willing to go to make a success of this new venture. That’s a huge improvement on the disaster that was marketing for the Lexus LFA. It seems the brand has learned its lesson on that front.

Note: The press photos in this article are not from the new GR Experience Center in Texas, but from the presentation held in December 2025.
