This Shelby GT500 Has 11 Miles And Still Smells Like 2006

  • A 2007 Shelby GT500 with just 11 miles is heading to auction.
  • The supercharged V8 makes 500 hp and 480 lb-ft of torque.
  • A 2009 GT500KR with 25 miles is also crossing the block.

Few modern muscle cars stir Mustang loyalists quite like the Shelby GT500. Next week, a pair of remarkably well-preserved examples from the 2007 and 2009 model years will cross the auction block, turning heads not just for their condition but for their astonishingly low mileage. For collectors on the hunt, these could be among the lowest-mileage GT500s left in the country.

The first of the duo is a red 2007MY Mustang GT500 (built in 2006) with white racing stripes, showing what amounts to delivery mileage at just 11 miles (18 km) since new. Its original MSRP was $43,570, which, adjusted for inflation, lands close to $70,000 in today’s money. With numbers like that, it’s almost certain to draw bids well beyond its original sticker price.

Oddly, the listing over at GAA Classic Cars offers very little information about the car’s ownership history. It also doesn’t say where the vehicle has been stored or how it has been maintained over the past two decades. Buying a delivery-mileage car like this is undeniably tempting at auction. But the reality is, cars generally don’t take kindly to sitting idle for years without proper care

If this GT500 has been left largely untouched since delivery, it will likely need a thorough inspection and service before the next owner puts miles on it. Admittedly, it seems more likely that the future owner will simply use it as an investment rather than drive it.

That might seem a shame, considering what’s under the hood. This GT500 is powered by a supercharged 5.4-liter V8 rated at 500 hp and 480 lb-ft (651 Nm) of torque, making it a serious performer, even by today’s standards.

An Even Rarer KR

The second low-mileage GT500 offered by GAA Classic Cars could command an even higher price. It’s a 2009 model year GT500KR, built in 2008, and one of just 712 produced that year. Finished in silver with blue racing stripes, it has remained with a single owner since new. A quick glance at the odometer shows it has been driven just 25 miles (40 km).

Ford made the GT500 even more animalistic with the KR version, tuning the engine to deliver 540 hp and 510 lb-ft (691 Nm) of torque, while also revising the suspension with new parts, including a front strut tower brace. The KR also features a carbon-fiber hood and a unique exhaust system.

It had an MSRP of $46,890, plus the KR option package, which added another $35,565 including a $2,100 gas guzzler surcharge, bringing the total to $82,555. Adjusted for inflation, that comes out to $122,108.57 in today’s money.
