Bugatti May Rebuild A 20-Year-Old Legend, But Don’t Even Dream Of Buying It

  • Bugatti may build a Veyron tribute as a one-off Solitaire model.
  • Rumored debut set for January 22, exactly 20 years after launch.
  • Design might copy original red, black, and beige 2005 Veyron.

Bugatti’s bespoke Solitaire program began making headlines last September with the reveal of the W16-powered Brouillard, a one-off hypercar inspired by the Mistral. Positioned as the program’s first creation, it set the tone for what’s shaping up to be a series of ultra-exclusive models.

Now, the next chapter appears to be forming with a rumored homage to the Veyron, the car that arguably redefined modern hypercar expectations.

The Veyron’s Legacy

The Veyron marked a turning point not just for Bugatti, but for the automotive world at large. It entered production in 2005 after years of conceptual teasing, realizing Ferdinand Piech’s grand dream: a hypercar that could be the fastest in the world without sacrificing comfort, reliability, or luxury.

It brought several world firsts to series production, most notably becoming the first road car with 1,000 horsepower and the ability to exceed 249 mph (400 km/h).

Over its decade-long run, Bugatti built 450 examples in various configurations, each pushing the edge of performance engineering. While both the Chiron (2016–2024) and the new Tourbillon (2025–present) have since taken performance to even higher levels, the Veyron remains the brand’s most defining model.

According to a report from the Supercar Blog, which cites unnamed sources close to the brand, Bugatti intends to revisit this legacy with a one-off tribute vehicle. The car is rumored to debut on January 22, 2026, exactly 20 years after the first production Veyron rolled out of Molsheim.

The design will reportedly draw directly from the original Veyron 16.4, featuring the same classic two-tone red and black paint scheme with a beige interior and aluminum accents.

Bugatti has already confirmed that Solitaire will produce no more than two one-off models per year. Each will be crafted using existing chassis and powertrain platforms, a constraint that helps frame what this upcoming tribute might be.

Chiron Roots Likely

Given those limits, a Chiron-derived base seems likely, especially since the now-discontinued model can house the quad-turbocharged 8.0-liter W16, an engine capable of delivering up to 1,578 horsepower (1,177 kW / 1,600 PS).

Still, there’s room for speculation. The tribute could just as easily involve an original Veyron platform that has been re-engineered and restored with updated components. Either approach would fall in line with Bugatti’s approach to exclusivity, although the final result will almost certainly arrive with a stratospheric price tag.

While the rumors remain unconfirmed, Bugatti marked the 20th anniversary of the Veyron during its “Soirée de Noël” event earlier this month at the Molsheim headquarters, calling it “a milestone in hypercar history.” Guests received miniature red-painted Veyrons as keepsakes, and a Bugatti designer sketched the model directly onto the dinner table.

We’ll be keeping an eye on the automaker’s social media channels for any early hints. With luck, CEO Mate Rimac might share a few details ahead of the rumored debut.
