Suzuki Brings Back Jimny 3D To Australia But At A Price

  • Suzuki brings back the Jimny 3-Door to Australia after brief hiatus.
  • 2026 lineup adds Lite and Jimny trims with upgraded tech features.
  • Prices climb by $2,000 as demand stays strong and rivals remain few.

Australians have a long-standing affection for the Jimny, a compact off-roader that’s become something of a national favorite. Earlier this year, though, the 3-Door version quietly vanished from sale after failing to meet new regulatory standards.

Now, in the wake of a mildly refreshed Jimny launch in Japan, Suzuki has confirmed the short-wheelbase model’s return to Australia, bringing with it a modest boost in technology and safety features.

What’s New?

The 2026 Suzuki Jimny lineup will be offered in two familiar trims. The entry-level Lite now gains a 7-inch infotainment screen and finally loses the nostalgic CD player, while the standard Jimny steps up to a larger 9-inch display.

The 4.2-inch driver information screen seen on the Japanese model wasn’t mentioned in Suzuki’s local release, so it appears Australians may miss out on that particular upgrade.

The rest of the exterior and interior design remains virtually unchanged. However, the 3-Door model benefits from upgraded driver assistance systems, previously limited to the longer 5-Door model.

New features include the Dual Sensor Brake Support II system, the Lane Departure Prevention, the Adaptive Cruise Control, as well as front and rear parking sensors.

Predictably, there is no change to the ladder-frame underpinnings or the naturally aspirated 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine, which generates 101 hp (75 kW / 102 PS). Buyers can pair it with either a five-speed manual or a four-speed automatic, always connected to a standard part-time 4WD system.

The Jimny’s popularity in Australia has given it the strongest retained value of any SUV. Some owners have even turned a profit by selling used examples amid limited supply and lengthy waiting lists.

Pricier Than Before

Suzuki Brings Back Jimny 3D To Australia But At A Price

Deliveries of the updated Jimny 3-Door are due to begin in February 2026. Prices before on-road costs start at AU$31,990 (equivalent to US$20,700 at current rates) for the entry-level Lite, while the regular Jimny begins at the same price for the manual version or AU$36,490 (US$23,600) for the automatic.

That marks an increase of AU$2,000 (US$1,300) over the previous version, with Suzuki banking on strong demand and a lack of direct competitors to justify the bump. Meanwhile, the longer 5-Door Jimny continues as the more practical option for those wanting a little extra space without losing the Jimny’s charm.
