Barn Find Dodge Macho Power Wagon With 746 Miles Still Smells Like 1977

  • The Macho Power Wagon has a red, orange, and black paint finish.
  • Certain areas of the Dodge’s exterior contain small spots of rust.
  • Dodge originally offered the Power Wagon with two different V8s.

There’s something undeniably satisfying about stumbling across a decades-old truck that hasn’t been run into the ground. Especially when it’s one of the more curious factory special editions from an era that was, let’s say, not shy about its tastes. Case in point, the Dodge Macho Power Wagon.

In 1977, Dodge introduced the Macho Power Wagon, a beefed-up version of its regular Power Wagon aimed at, well, macho men. It was part of the brand’s “Adult Toy” special edition series—yes, that was really the name—and it leaned heavily into the rugged, tough-guy image of the era. Finding a low-mileage one is like finding a needle in a haystack, and this one is a needle.

The truck in question is a 1977 model listed for sale through Facebook Marketplace in Sevierville, Tennessee. Incredibly, it only has 746 miles (1,200 km) on the clock, no doubt making it one of the lowest-mileage examples in existence.

A Familiar Face From Gas Monkey

A little bit of digging reveals that this very truck was offered up for sale by Gas Monkey Garage in Dallas, Texas, back in September 2014. At the time, it had 566 miles (911 km) on it. It’s unclear how long it’s been in the possession of the current seller, but it looks to be in great, original condition. That being said, it does have areas of rust across the exterior, particularly on the tailgate and the black rear bumper bar, remaining true to its barn-find status.

Classic Looks

Similarly, a look at the underside of the pickup shows other areas of surface rust, although it doesn’t appear to be significant. According to the seller, they’ve swapped out the wheels and tires, but still have the originals.

Like all other Macho Power Wagons, this one has black factory roll bars in the bed, and it’s finished in a flamboyant red, black, and orange paint scheme. The listing doesn’t specify which engine it’s running, but these trucks came with either a 318-cubic-inch (5.2-liter) or a 440-cubic-inch (7.2-liter) V8, both solid, old-school options.

The cabin appears to have been preserved quite well, but could do with a thorough cleaning, as there appears to be mold on the steering column. The price for this unique barn find? That’ll be $28,500, which doesn’t sound unreasonable.

If you’re into classic American pickups that need just a bit of love to shine again, you can check out the full listing on Facebook Marketplace over here.
