BMW’s Next M3 Will Offer EV And New Type Of Six-Cylinder Engine

Image
BMW’s Head of Neue Klasse confirmed the next M3 will offer both EV and ICE versions. The gas-powered M3 will feature a “new type of six-cylinder engine” for traditional fans. Both models will share styling, but the iM3 could emerge as the performance leader. BMW has been teasing the i3 / 3-Series Neue Klasse for months and now they’re ready to talk about the next-generation M3. It will reportedly arrive within the next two years and be offered as an EV as well as an ICE-powered model. This had been expected, but BMW’s Dr. Mike Reichelt recently confirmed the news to Top Gear . As he told the publication, “We’re … going to offer it with a new type of six-cylinder engine, because we understand it may be early for some committed M fans to make the switch.” However, he said they’re “convinced the fully-electric M3 is going to hit new heights and reach new target groups, because it’ll behave completely differently.” More: BMW Vision Vehicle Is Our Best Look Yet At The iM3 N...

Tesla’s In Crisis, How Would You Save It?

Image
Tesla is at a crossroads as Elon Musk is widely disliked and people are protesting at dealerships. The Cybertruck is a flop, while the Model S and X have become slow-selling senior citizens. That’s just a glimpse into their troubles, so how would you save the company? There are troubled automakers and then there’s Tesla. The brand has found itself in an unimaginable situation where they’re the target of protests because of their CEO. If that wasn’t bad enough, people are shooting up dealerships and firebombing cars . Customers are fleeing, sales are down, and revenues are off. The Cybertruck is also a flop, while Tesla stock is down nearly 25% year-to-date. More: Tesla Desperate To Clear Cybertruck Inventory With Huge Discounts And Perks While that’s just scratching the surface, it brings about an interesting question. How would you save Tesla? There’s no easy answer, but one of the first moves would probably be to let Elon Musk go and distance the company from him. W...

This Scion Gets A Taste Of Aston Martin

Image
This Scion iQ was transformed to resemble the rare Aston Martin Cygnet. The owner invested $10,000 into upgrades, including on chassis tweaks. Beneath the hood sits the original 97hp 1.3-liter four-cylinder engine. High-end carmakers have made some odd decisions over the years, but few are quite as perplexing, or strangely endearing, as the Aston Martin Cygnet. A luxury badge on a city car chassis sounds like a punchline, yet here we are. The Cygnet, essentially a rebadged Toyota/Scion iQ, was Aston Martin’s loophole-friendly answer to fleet average emissions requirements. Overall, fewer than 1,000 were produced, and they rarely show up for sale. But if you’ve got Cygnet fever and can’t find the real thing, this customized iQ might be the closest you’ll get. VW’s 1 Millionth EV Is Here, But It’s Crushing Them

Image
VW is celebrating the production of its 1 millionth EV, an ID.3 GTX. Electric sales doubled in Europe in the first three months of 2025. But EVs are less profitable and have contributed to lower earnings. Party hats were compulsory headgear at VW’s Zwickau plant in eastern Germany this week. The factory produces six different EVs for various VW Group brands and just built its millionth electric car, an ID.3 GTX hot hatch. But Zwickau’s busy production lines are causing a headache for the bean counters at VW’s Wolfsburg HQ. The problem is that EVs are expensive to build and deliver smaller margins than equivalent combustion-powered cars. And while electric sales doubling in Europe in the first quarter of 2025 is something to celebrate, some of those sales come at the expense of ICE sales. GM’s V8 Engine Problem Is So Bad It’s Wrecking Thousands Of Trucks And SUVs

Image
GM is recalling 597,630 trucks and SUVs equipped with potentially defective 6.2-liter V8 engines. Impacted models include the Cadillac Escalade, Chevrolet Silverado 1500, and GMC Sierra 1500. The engines may have internal debris or an out of spec crankshaft, which can lead to failure. General Motors is recalling hundreds of thousands of trucks and SUVs equipped with its 6.2-liter V8 engine. It turns out some internal components may have manufacturing defects, the kind that don’t just hurt performance, but can actually cause serious damage or even complete engine failure. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the connecting rods and/or crankshaft could be problematic. These components were made by American Axle & Manufacturing as well as Questum Macimex, and the government agency says the problems are due to “supplier manufacturing and quality issues.” More: NHTSA Investigating Nearly 900,000 GM Trucks And SUVs Over Engine Failures Engine ...

This Miata’s Smiling Because It’s Hiding Something Big

Image
Someone is selling a V8-powered Mazda MX-5 Miata at auction, and it looks attractive. Beyond the engine, it possesses several desirable options and evidently has low mileage. At the same time, it has a few notable issues that will require sorting for the next owner. If there’s ever been a consistent gripe about the Mazda MX-5 , it’s that the roadster needs more power. Mazda has largely ignored that and just worked hard to keep the car light and nimble. But the car community? It had other plans, like shoving V8s under the Miata’s hood. One such example is now up for auction , and it doesn’t just have more power, it’s got a full-blown small block under the hood. This isn’t just any MX-5 either. It’s a low-mileage example from 2012. It’s a Special Edition trim too, so it gets Velocity Red paint, heated seats, leather upholstery, a Bose sound system, and a power-retractable hardtop.
