This LS2-Powered Porsche Cayenne Drift Car Will Get You All Fired Up
- The owner of the SUV bought it with a blown engine and has always wanted to do an epic LS swap.
- Paired with the 6.0-liter LS2 is the transmission of a BMW E92 335i driving the rear wheels.
- Remarkably, the Cayenne retains its original axles and driveshaft.
More often than not, drift cars are based on sports cars or, occasionally, hatchbacks and sedans. Rarely is a professional drift car based around a big and heavy SUV, but that’s exactly what this Porsche Cayenne has become. It serves as a testament to what’s possible if you’re an experienced car builder and are determined to make something unique.
The owner of this Cayenne purchased the SUV with a blown engine and had always dreamed of doing an LS-swap. So, that’s exactly what he did. The Porsche is now rocking a 6.0-liter LS2 V8 that’s been supplemented with a supercharger running seven pounds of boost. It produces 530 hp and is paired with the transmission from a BMW E92 335i, complete with a triple-disc clutch.

Incredibly, the car retains the original Porsche axles and differential, and yet, it can pull off some impressive drift angles and manages to cop heaps of abuse. Larry Chen had an opportunity to check out the crazy SUV in person at the recent Gridlife event at Lime Rock Park and was blown away by the attention to detail and all of the unique elements of the SUV.
Obviously, a standard Cayenne sits way too high for a professional drift car, so the suspension and the entire sub-frame have been lowered by 9 inches, meaning the underside of the Porsche now sits less than 2 inches off the pavement. It also rolls on a set of aftermarket 22-inch wheels, is equipped with new Wilwood brakes at the rear, and has custom front knuckles.
The cabin of the Cayenne is also very intriguing. While many drift cars have been stripped out, the owner of this car has added plenty of luxuries, including front seats from a Bentley that are trimmed in red leather and black Alcantara. It even has a thumping sound system that includes four speakers in each of the front doors.
