The Cadillac Lyriq Is Cheaper To Lease Than The XT5 Despite Costing $13,300 More

Compelling lease deals are becoming more commonplace among new EVs in the United States, and a new deal for the Cadillac Lyriq now means it’s cheaper to lease than the combustion-powered XT5 despite having a much higher MSRP. Should shoppers consider leasing it over the XT5?

Shoppers who lease a 2024 Lyriq through Cadillac will be rewarded with a $7,500 commercial tax credit and can walk out the showroom door with one for $439 per month for 36 months with $4,899 due at signing, bringing it up to an effective lease cost of $575 a month. This deal is for the Lyriq base model with a $58,590 MSRP.

To put this into perspective, the outgoing 2024 Cadillac XT5 Luxury has been advertised for $509 per month for 39 months with $4,259 due at signing. Do the math, and that equates to $618 per month over the life of the lease, not including taxes. That’s significantly more than the Lyriq when considering the XT5 Luxury has an MSRP of $45,290, including destination fees, Cars Direct reports.

When compared to the 2024 XT5, the Lyriq is hard to ignore, and this is particularly evident when comparing the cabins of the two SUVs. As the XT5 has been around for quite a few years now, its interior seems basic and outdated compared to the Lyriq. The XT5 makes do with a central infotainment screen in the dashboard and a part-digital, part-analog gauge cluster. By comparison, the Lyriq has Cadillac’s latest curved 33-inch display, and its cabin is much more modern.

Of course, the powertrain differences are the most significant. The XT5 Luxury and Premium Luxury come standard with a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder with 235 hp, while the $56,795 XT5 Sport has a 310 hp 3.6-liter V6. By comparison, the entry-level Lyriq has an electric motor with 340 hp and 325 lb-ft (441 Nm) that drives the rear wheels. It can travel a claimed 314 miles (505 km) on a charge, and while the XT5 can travel further on a tank of fuel, it’s not as quick.

Shoppers should also consider that the current XT5 sold in the U.S. could be replaced by the new model in the works for China. This makes the Lyriq even more tempting, right?
