Jeep Wagoneer 4xe Coming With Ramcharger Range-Extended Powertrain

  • Jeep officials have reportedly confirmed plans for Wagoneer 4xe variants.
  • The models will reportedly use a range-extended powertrain similar to the Ram 1500 Ramcharger.

Jeep makes two of the best-selling plug-in hybrids in America, so it’s not surprising to learn more are on the horizon. Besides the recently confirmed Gladiator 4xe, the company is also working on electrified Wagoneers.

According to Autoblog, Jeep CEO Antonio Filosa confirmed the news at the Wagoneer S launch and revealed the models will borrow heavily from the Ram 1500 Ramcharger. The latter is a range-extended pickup, which features a 92 kWh battery as well as a dual-motor all-wheel drive system producing 663 hp (494 kW / 672 PS) and 615 lb-ft (833 Nm) of torque.

This enables the truck to accelerate from 0-60 mph (96 km/h) in approximately 4.4 seconds. However, the real coup de grace is a 3.6-liter V6 engine that acts as a generator and enables the model to have a range of up to 690 miles (1,110 km).

That’s far more than traditional EVs and Ram has previously said the engine can be used to recharge the battery or work with the battery to “provide maximum power to the wheels.” However, there is no mechanical connection between the engine and wheels as it simply powers a generator.

Jeep Wagoneer 4xe Coming With Ramcharger Range-Extended Powertrain

There’s no word on when the Wagoneer 4xes will be launched, but officials reportedly confirmed the powertrain won’t be identical to the one in the Ramcharger. As a result, the shorter Wagoneers might have a smaller battery pack and a reduced range.

Pricing also remains a mystery, but the models likely won’t be cheap as the Wagoneer starts at $62,945 while the Grand Wagoneer will set you back at least $91,945.
