US-Spec Alfa Romeo Tonale Goes Into Production, Arrives In June For $42,995

The Alfa Romeo Tonale was introduced over a year ago and it’s finally coming to America as production of the US-spec crossover is now underway.

Set to arrive at dealerships in June, the 2024 Tonale starts at $42,995 and is eligible for a $7,500 federal tax credit as long as the plug-in hybrid crossover is leased instead of purchased. That makes leasing a no-brainer and we can likely expect attractive offers at launch.

While Alfa Romeo opened pre-orders for the $44,995 Ti and $47,495 Veloce trims months ago, the company has confirmed they’ll be joined by an entry-level Tonale Sprint.

Alfa Romeo hasn’t released a detailed equipment list, but the Tonale Sprint will likely have LED lighting units and 18-inch alloy wheels. We can also expect a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 10.25-inch infotainment system with wireless Android Auto as well as wireless Apple CarPlay.

Other highlights are slated to include a wireless smartphone charger and a host of standard driver assistance systems. In particular, we can expect adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning with lane keep assist, and forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking and pedestrian detection. We can also expect traffic sign recognition technology, intelligent speed assist, a rear seat reminder, and blind spot monitoring.

Power is provided by a plug-in hybrid powertrain that consists of a turbocharged 1.3-liter four-cylinder engine, a rear-mounted electric motor, a six-speed automatic transmission, and a 15.5 kWh lithium-ion battery pack. This setup gives the crossover all-wheel drive as well as a combined output of 285 hp (213 kW / 289 PS).

The powertrain enables the Tonale to accelerate from 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) in less than six seconds and hit a top speed of 130 mph (209 km/h). More importantly, we can expect an electric-only range in excess of 30 miles (48 km).

The 2024 BMW 5-Series Touring Can’t Come Soon Enough, Here’s What It May Look Like

While we don’t have a date as to when this new version will be showcased to the world, a rendering artist by the name of Theottle has also imagined how such a car could look. The process of turning the new 5-Series sedan into an estate on Photoshop is relatively easy. To do so, Theottle started out with the roof from the current 3-Series Touring and pasted it onto the 5-Series.
