Porsche Reveals The Secret Boxster That’s Been Shooting Its Fastest Cars

Image
Porsche has revealed a special 718 that helps it create its promotional images. The Boxster S was turned into a camera car by the brand’s apprentices in 2017. It has been used regularly since but has only now stepped in front of the lens. When you think of a Porsche 718 Boxster S, you imagine mid-engine handling kicks, steely steering precision and a boxer howl enveloping the open cabin. What probably doesn’t even cross your mind is a rolling “camera studio” complete with power inverters, harness mounts, and camera rigs. Yet that’s exactly what nine apprentices at Porsche’s Leipzig facility turned a 718 into because some of those first qualities make it perfect for the job. More: Why It Takes Five People To Operate LA’s Famous Porsche Camera Car Back in 2017, the junior technicians set out to build the perfect camera car capable of keeping up with then-current Porsches on the Leipzig test track. The company already had an older Boxster-based rig, but it was struggling...

The Life-Saving Law Few Drivers Understand Until It’s Too Late

Image
Only 64% of drivers slow down or move over near roadside incidents. Tow truck drivers face the highest risk from weak enforcement efforts. Most drivers change lanes but rarely slow down, missing half the law. It sounds straightforward enough: slow down and move over. Yet for many drivers, this simple instruction might as well be written in another language. A new study from the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety (AAAFTS) shows just how little the average motorist grasps this life-or-death rule. Every state has a law surrounding “Slow Down, Move Over,” as it’s known, yet only one in three drivers truly understands what it requires. And that gap in awareness is costing lives. Inside the AAA Study After 46 tow truck drivers were killed in 2024, AAAFTS decided to dig deeper. The foundation conducted focus groups with 135 drivers across 10 states and analyzed footage from 169 separate crash scenes using existing traffic cameras. The goal was to see how drivers behaved when...

$4,900 For A Taillight? Lucid’s Ridiculous Lease Charges Are Scaring Off Buyers

Image
A Lucid Air lessee was charged thousands for small cosmetic damages. Most expensive part needed was a new right taillight due to a tiny crack. Bank of America reportedly uses third-party inspectors for lease returns. It seems Lucid just can’t stop tripping over its own shoelaces when it comes to end-of-lease charges. What began as a few isolated complaints has grown into a steady chorus of frustration, as more customers share stories online about the surprisingly steep bills arriving when their leases wrap up. Read: Lucid Wants Thousands In Lease Charges For Scratches And A Missing Key Fob The latest example might be the most egregious we’ve seen so far, and cases like this are already pushing some customers to abandon plans for leasing a Lucid altogether. Mounting Lease Complaints As we’ve seen in several recent instances, the first charge this customer faced was for a front bumper replacement. According to the inspector’s report, when the Air was returned, 10 sm...

Automakers Are Paying The Price For Not Knowing What’s Inside Their Cars

Image
Cars coming to the US from Canada and Mexico are being hit with high tariffs. A study found automakers paid an average of 19 percent on each one in July. The rate suggests imported vehicles contain mostly parts not made in the US. Automakers building cars in Canada and Mexico are feeling the heat from new US trade rules. The pressure isn’t just political; it’s also financial. Fresh data suggests that many of those vehicles contain less US-made material than required to qualify for available tariff breaks, and it’s landing them with huge bills. Passenger cars imported from Canada and Mexico were hit with an average tariff rate of 19 percent in July, according to figures from the US International Trade Commission analyzed by T.D. Cowen. Why The Numbers Don’t Add Up That’s under a system that recognizes many imports do use American components, so only applies a 25 percent a tariff on parts not manufactured inside the United States. Yale Economists Quantify Exactly How Many Sales Musk’s Politics Cost Tesla

Image
Yale economists say Musk’s politics have significantly hurt Tesla sales. Study blames the sharp sales drop on the so-called “Musk partisan effect.” Tesla shareholders vote in November on Musk’s $1 trillion pay package. Once hailed as a maverick genius we could all get behind, Tesla CEO Elon Musk has earned plenty of haters over the last few years as a result of his controversial political stances and affiliations. Moreover, a new study has just confirmed what we all suspected all along: that those politics have cost Tesla billions of dollars in lost sales revenue. How Bad Is the Damage? Tesla US vehicle sales dropped by between 1 million and 1.26 million between October 2022 and April 2025, according to The National Bureau of Economic Research, a group of economists based at Yale University. Related: Musk’s Tesla Payday Is So Absurd Even The Pope Had Something To Say The authors estimate Teslas sales during that period should have been 67-83 percent higher. Some ...

Cadillac Celestiq Goes Higher For 2026, Now Starts At $400K

Image
2026 Celestiq now starts in the low-$400,000 range, up from around $340,000 last year. It adds eight years of connected services and a patterned smart glass roof as standard. Cadillac says it has simplified its bespoke design process for faster, easier customization. Some said that the all-electric Cadillac Celestiq was going to be too expensive to sell. For the 2025 model year, it started at an eye-watering $340,000 before options; not exactly cheap, then. Now, for 2026, the price starts at over $400,000 and, again, that’s before any options. Perhaps even wilder is that Cadillac says it’s sold out for 2025 and taking orders for next year. The automaker tells Autonews that the price increase comes with additional standard equipment, including eight years of connected service. Well, when you pay $400k for a high-tech vehicle, you’d probably be annoyed if the company charged you extra to use that tech, wouldn’t you? In addition, 2026 models will get a premium patterned s...
