Lincoln’s Best-Selling Vehicle Is A Chinese Import

Image
The Chinese-made Nautilus is Lincoln’s best-selling vehicle by a wide margin. The brand sold 8,273 units in the United States in the second quarter. Navigator sales dropped 27%, but a new version is in the works. Last year, Ford billed themselves as “America’s automaker” as they led the way in U.S. production, exports, and hourly employment. While the numbers don’t lie, it’s interesting to note Lincoln’s best-selling vehicle is made in China. We’re talking about the redesigned Nautilus , which generated 8,273 sales in the past three months. That edged out the Corsair (6,563) and Aviator (5,664) by a considerable margin. A high-spec example of the 2023 Cadillac Escalade was converted to right-hand-drive. This is the work of Global Conversions, which is based in the United Arab Emirates. Any trim of the Cadillac Escalade and other US-specific models can be converted upon request. The Cadillac Escalade isn’t exactly suited for navigating London’s narrow streets, but UK buyers can now get their hands on a right-hand-drive model. Hyundai Elantra Sales Tumble 17%, EVs Up 33% This Year

Image
Sales of Hyundai EVs jumped 33 percent in the first half of 2024, while hybrid deliveries grew by 39 percent. The brand’s overall performance was less impressive, growing by just 1.2 percent to 399,523. The Elantra sedan took a 17 percent hit and the Santa Cruz pickup was down 10 percent. Hyundai has just released its half-year US sales figures for 2024, and the numbers are at the same time good, bad and ho-hum. There’s positive news on the EV front, but some of the brand’s stalwarts are struggling to hook buyers in like they used to. Overall sales climbed 2.2 percent this past quarter, but by only 1.2 percent in the first six months of this year to 399,523, which is a far less impressive result than achieved by Toyota, who enjoyed a near-15 percent uplift in the same period. But that modest growth figure doesn’t reveal some of the solid work done by individual models, in particular the brand’s electric cars and crossovers, whose sales swelled by a third. Related: Hyund

Rivian R1 Gen 2 Owners Warned Against Using Gen 1 Floormats Or Risk Stuck Accelerator

Image
Rivian’s second-gen R1S and R1T have a new pedal box design incompatible with first-gen all-weather floor mats. The Rivian-sold mats for the Gen 1 can cause the Gen 2’s accelerator to get stuck, leading to unintended acceleration. The automaker is likely developing new all-weather mats for the second-gen vehicles. Rivian’s updated R1S and R1T have a host of new features that add to what many customers already love. At the same time, several of the changes are somewhat subtle and one of them is the pedal box. One customer found that out the hard way after installing rubber floor mats meant only for the first-gen R1 vehicles. The mats in question are the “All Weather” mats sold by Rivian directly. They come as a set of four mats including one for each of the front seats and then one for each of the subsequent rows. Notably, Rivian points out online that they’re “Compatible with Gen1 vehicles only.” Read: VW Throws Rivian A $5 Billion Lifeline, But Can They Stay Afloat?

Image
Chinese automakers make hay while the sun shines before EU tariffs come into play. SAIC-owned MG has shifted its attention towards its combustion offerings in anticipation of the upcoming 38% levy. Volkswagen records strong performance, with the new Golf recording a 30 percent increase YoY. With the EU poised to implement taxes of up to 38 percent on the import of Chinese vehicles, a new study revealed that two in five of Europe’s best-selling EVs are of Chinese origin. Looking at data for May 2024, the results show that Chinese cars accounted for 19 percent of EV sales in May 2024, a six percent increase from the same month last year. Overall, European new car registrations dropped by 2.5 percent in May 2024 versus the year before but remain higher than they were following years riddled by post-pandemic production turmoil in 2021 and 2022. A total of 1.09 million units were registered last month. Read: While The US And EU Raise Trade Barriers, Australia Opens Its Doors
