Kia Confirms New Pickup Truck For Australia In 2025 To Rival Toyota Hilux

Image
A Kia pickup truck to rival the likes of the Toyota Hilux and Ford Ranger has been confirmed for the Australian market and will arrive in 2025. While relatively few spy shots of the vehicle have emerged over the past couple of years, Kia confirmed that it was working on two separate electric trucks last March . It revealed that one would be based on Hyundai’s E-GMP electric platform and the second truck will be focused on emerging markets. This second model is thought to be the one heading to Australia but it won’t be sold exclusively as an EV. Kia Australia confirmed the model during its most recent meeting with local dealerships. The carmaker stated that the vehicle will be a “genuine and serious rival” to the Toyota Hilux and Ford Ranger, Drive reports. It is reported that Kia has purchased Toyota Hilux and Ford Ranger models for benchmark testing. US To Make Automatic Emergency Braking Mandatory On All Passenger Cars

Image
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has proposed new rules that would require nearly all light vehicles in the U.S. to be equipped with an Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB) system. The federal organization predicts that the move would save more than 360 lives per year. “Today, we take an important step forward to save lives and make our roadways safer for all Americans,” U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg said. “Just as lifesaving innovations from previous generations like seat belts and airbags have helped improve safety, requiring automatic emergency braking on cars and trucks would keep all of us safer on our roads.” As proposed, the rules would require automobiles with a gross vehicle weight of less than 10,000 lbs (4,536 kg) to feature an AEB system within three years of the publication of the final rule, which is now set to undergo a 60-day public comment period before being finalized. 2024 Ford Ranger Set To Get Rugged Tremor Variant

Image
In one fell swoop, Ford unveiled the 2024 Ranger and Ranger Raptor at an event earlier this month. Now, a “Body Builders Layout Book” has revealed a Tremor variant is on the horizon. Posted on Ranger6G , the document mentions a Ranger Tremor Crew Cab 4X4 and says it will ride on 17-inch wheels wrapped in meatier all-terrain tires. It goes on to suggest the truck will have a lift as well as a GVWR of 6,790 lbs (3,080 kg). That isn’t much to go on, but the outgoing Ranger Tremor was designed to provide drivers with improved off-road capability without sacrificing the “everyday drivability, payload and towing capacity Ranger owners expect.” As part of this effort, the truck has a lifted suspension, retuned springs, a more relaxed anti-roll bar, and FOX 2.0 monotube dampers with rear piggyback reservoirs. 2024 Skoda Superb Sedan Shows Off Its Huge Wheelbase As The Passat’s Roomy Sibling

Image
Between the spy shots and the official teasers we’ve seen plenty of Skoda ’s upcoming Superb, though so far the sightings have been restricted to the capacious wagon version. But we all know that the mechanically identical sedan is being developed in parallel and this week we’ve finally spotted one out in the open. Spy photographers caught the more formal four-door Superb testing in the Alps, and a quick Google translate job on the German text on the rear tells us that its specifically the performance of the brakes on the long Alpine descents that the engineers are interested in.  The Superb shares its stretched MQB platform with the next European-market Volkswagen Passat , which has traditionally been slightly shorter than the Skoda but will match it inch-for-inch this time. While the VW will only be available as a wagon, the Skoda gives buyers two body styles to choose from, including the liftback sedan seen here. Both feature a massive wheelbase that’s likely to be increased...
