Why Volvo Switched Naming Plans For The New EX90 At The Last Minute

Image
As Volvo is gearing up for the presentation of its new range-topping electric SUV on  November 9, the Swedish carmaker is providing new details about the EX90, with the brand’s new CEO, Jim Rowan, explaining how the company decided on the name of the first car that will come out under his leadership. Speaking to Autonews , Rowan said it was brand familiarity that prompted Volvo to stick with its alphanumeric nomenclature for the EX90, rather than making the switch to a new, wordy name, as was the company’s original plan under his predecessor Hakan Samuelsson. “Different options are continually reviewed when it comes to the introduction of new models and many considerations need to be taken into account, particularly brand familiarity,” said Rowan. “We have reviewed all the associated factors and ultimately the EX90 marks a new iteration on our current nomenclature and is reflective of our transition toward a full-electric lineup by 2030.” Read Also: 2024 Volvo EX90 Confirmed ...

Watch California Cop Tell Dodge Challenger Hellcat Owner It’s Illegal To Use Red Key As It Makes It Too Loud

Image
A TikToker going by the handle srt_ray6.4 recently posted video footage of an interaction he had with a police officer who claimed that the exhaust on his Dodge Challenger Hellcat was not in line with state regulations relating to decibel levels, despite the car allegedly being stock. In two videos, compiled by YouTuber SoCal Super, interactions with two police officers relating to the same citation can be seen. Although the circumstances of the stop are not clear, the first video shows a police officer stating the vehicle’s red key, which unlocks a Challenger or Charger Hellcat ‘s full complement of 707 hp (527 kW/717 PS), is not appropriate for the road. “For one, you’re driving with the red key, which is for track performance. It opens up the exhaust,” the officer states in the TikTok video . “And secondly, that blowback on the exhausts is not stock.” Read Also: California To Introduce Sound Sensors To Crack Down Loud Exhausts @srt_ray6.4 Imagine not knowing the difference o...

Audi Sees EV Range Becoming Less Important In The Future As Charging Infrastructure Improves

Image
Audi has the largest EV lineup in America as the automaker already offers five different models including the recently launched Q4 e-tron and Q4 e-tron Sportback . We’ll have more to say about the crossovers in our upcoming review, but we recently talked EVs with Audi of America President Daniel Weissland. During a wide-ranging discussion, we asked if Audi sees 300 miles (483 km) of range as being the gold standard like some competitors . While Weissland noted 300 miles (483 km) of range is “good,” he said the ideal distance varies by segment. In particular, there are cost and weight benefits to using smaller and lighter battery packs in certain models, such as those focused on affordability. All 50 US States Get Green Light For Massive Building Project of EV Charging Stations

Image
Earlier this week, the US Department of Transportation granted approval for new electric vehicle charging station plans submitted by all 50 states, Washington D.C. and Puerto Rico, as part of an ambitious federal funded program to install charging stations along 75,000 miles of the interstate system. Earlier in the year, the Biden administration allocated $5 billion over a five-year period to fund EV chargers along interstate highways under a plan entitled the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Formula Program and required states to submit their proposals for development. These proposals have now been approved and states immediately gain access to $1.5 billion to start on their programs. The White House has allocated approximately $135 billion in funding towards EV development and has set a goal of making EVs account for 50% of new vehicle sales by 2030, as part of a broader commitment to cut emissions in half by 2030 and reach net-zero emissions by 2050. A major segment of...

You Can Have Your Ford Mustang Completely Rebodied In Real Carbon Fiber

Image
The Ford Mustang has slowly and subtly grown from an everyday pony car to a real powerhouse with upper trim levels that develop more than 750 hp (559 kW). Despite that, it’s never really garnered the same type of reverence that other high-end sports cars enjoy. Now, one company has decided to rectify that situation by offering a service where it replaces the stock body with real carbon fiber. That company is Asira Designs out of Arizona and it specializes in high-end customization to a degree we’ve never seen on the original pony car. What you see here isn’t a front clip of carbon fiber pieces and a wrap on the rear half. It’s all real carbon fiber and the Asira Mustang saves more than 200 pounds off of the original car because of the swap. If all a buyer wants is the body swap it’ll cost them $43,000, but that includes a paint job and exposed carbon fiber accents. Those who want a naked carbon fiber finish will need to spend another $15,000. That’s a lot but it includes a center...

Elon Musk Says The Tesla Cybertruck Will Be Waterproof And “Serve As A Boat”

Image
Much like the second-generation Tesla Roadster and the Tesla Semi, the automaker’s Cybertruck has been hit with numerous delays but could eventually reach the hands of customers next year. When it does, it will be waterproof, according to Elon Musk. The eccentric chief executive recently took to Twitter to reveal that the Cybertruck will be able to briefly serve as a boat. “Cybertruck will be waterproof enough to serve briefly as a boat, so it can cross rivers, lakes & even seas that aren’t too choppy,” Musk wrote before adding that it “needs be able to get from Starbase to South Padre Island, which requires crossing the channel.” Read Also: Elon Musk Hopeful That Tesla Cybertruck Deliveries Will Begin In Mid-2023 Needs be able to get from Starbase to South Padre Island, which requires crossing the channel — Elon Musk (@elonmusk) September 29, 2022 This isn’t the first time that Musk has spruiked the water-crossing abilities of a Tesla model. Kia Increases The Price Of The Rio By $360 For 2023

Image
Kia introduced a modest increase to the price of its entry level car, the Rio, for the 2023 model year. An increase in the destination fee, though, conceals the full extent of the price hike. Before destination, Kia has applied a $16,450 MSRP to the entry-level 2023 Rio, the LX 4-Door Sedan. That’s $300 more than the same car cost last year. According to KBB , though, the destination fee was $995 last year, but Kia says that it now be $1,055, raising the total price of the Rio to $17,505, $360 more than the total charged to customers last year. That pricing increase extends over the rest of the lineup, with the Rio S 5-Door (hatchback) starting at $17,390, as opposed to the $17,090 it cost last year. All in, buyers are once again being charged $360 more for the 2023 model than the 2022 one.
