Epic Drag Race Shows All Generations Of The Porsche 911 Turbo Going Toe-To-Toe

Image
The current Porsche 911 Turbo S is one of the fastest-accelerating production cars in existence and this latest drag racing video from CarWow shows just how much quicker it has become over the decades. There are a total of seven generations of 911 Turbo that have been produced over the decades. The dynasty started back in 1975 with the introduction of the 930. It was built until 1989 when it was replaced by the 964 Turbo that only stuck around until 1993 and two years later, was superseded by the 993. The 997 then followed it and was available between 2006 and 2011 before the 991-generation landed in 2013. In 2020, the current 992 Turbo and Turbo S models hit the market. It shouldn’t come as a surprise that the 911 Turbo has only become faster over the years so it makes sense that the newer

Tesla Recalls Exactly One Model X For Being Delivered Without A Necessary Body Reinforcement

Image
Tesla sent a 2022 Model X out for delivery despite it missing a bracket that provides additional reinforcement to the body structure at the second-row seat. The automaker has been forced to replace that vehicle free of charge thanks to a recall action. Without the reinforcement bracket, the car does not meet the minimum loading requirements set by regulators in FMVSS 207 and 210. As a result, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says that second-row occupants may not be properly restrained in an accident, increasing the risk of injury. According to NHTSA documents, the Model X was actually one of a handful of pre-production five-seater test vehicles. Although it was built to spec in February, testing revealed that the then-current design did not comply with minimum loading requirements. Californian Revelers Steal From Semi-Truck During Car ‘Takeover’ At Busy Intersection

Image
A group of youngsters in San Bernardino, California have been caught on film attacking a truck driver and stealing during a car ‘takeover’ in the middle of an intersection. The incident occurred at the intersection of W. 5th Street and Mt. Vernon Avenue in San Bernardino shortly after midnight on Monday morning. Takeovers of this kind are becoming an increasingly common sight across the country and involved hundreds of individuals blocking the intersection to perform donuts in their cars and other dangerous stunts. They were even letting off fireworks. In the midst of the takeover, a large semi-truck carrying furniture attempted to cross through but was blocked by revelers . Speaking with a witness, Fox 11 learned that at one point, the crowd opened the truck’s unlocked door and attacked the driver. Morgan Swings For The Fences By Hiring Lamborghini’s Chief Project Management Officer

Image
British sports car company Morgan begins a new era with former Lamborghini director Massimo Fumarola as its CEO. He begins the job as the brand which is famous for old-school building techniques eyes a future in a world dominated by electrified powertrains. Lamborghini might be willing to dig its hooves in a little bit and stick to old-school engines or avoid turbocharging but Morgan is retrograde on a different level. Its vehicles make no apologies for looking like they’ve rolled out of the early 1900s. Wood is still extensively used and the cars are not really built to be all-out speed machines either. That bucks modern trends like super-futuristic styling, hard angles and creases, and horsepower above all else. Morgan’s latest creation, the Super 3 , is the first clean-sheet design it’s built since 2000. Now it’s trying to determine a clear path for the brand in the electric age. What 1990s Cars Still Look And Feel Modern Today?

Image
Vehicle technology has advanced so much that even a vehicle that’s only a few years old can feel absolutely ancient. There is a quantum leap between vehicles built today and those that came out in the 1990s, but there are a few standouts that managed to offer a driving experience that was way ahead of their time. We’ve had the opportunity to drive many cars new and old, but a 1997 BMW E39 5-Series owned by a friend of Carscoops sticks out in our minds as a vehicle that still feels modern to this day. BMW has always been very good at creating a modern product, and when it comes to actual interior refinement and driving feel, the 5-Series had it right from the get-go. The leather interior was comfortable and featured large bolsters to hold you in place, the shifter was perfectly notchy with a short throw, and the brakes provided a good feel for both sporty driving as well as regular traffic. Ford Recalling Over 250k Explorers That Could Rollaway While In Park

Image
Ford is recalling 252,936 Explorers from the 2020-2022 model years because their driveshaft can disconnect and cause the vehicle to roll-away while in park. According to the NHTSA , the affected vehicles have a three-point mounted axle design and, on some units, the rear axle horizontal mounting bolt may fracture. As the defect description explains, “Powertrain torque through the driveline causes axle rotation of the pinion angled towards the subframe, which exerts a bending force on the rear axle bolt.” It goes onto to add, “After numerous peak torque events are experienced, the bolt may suffer a fatigue failure, which will lead to the axle housing moving out of position, resulting in a condition described by customers and dealer technicians variably as loud, grinding, binding, or clunking noises.” Also Read:  2022 Ford Explorer Gets A 400HP Rear-Wheel Drive ST Model And New ST-Line Trim If the rear axle bolt breaks, the driveshaft may become disconnected resulting in a loss of

Two Acura Engineers Will Compete In 2022 One Lap Of America In TLX Type S

Image
A pair of engineers who work to set the chassis and handling characteristics in all Acura vehicles will be putting their own work to the test by participating in the 2022 Tire Rack One Lap of America challenge. The eight-day road rally will take Nicolas Hammann and Clifton Ching on a 3,200-mile (5,149 km) tour of America. The event starts on April 30 at the Tire Rack headquarters in South Bend, Indiana and ends there on May 7 after the competitors have traveled through 12 states and to some of the country’s greatest motorsport facilities, including Barber Motorsports Park , in Birmingham, Alabama; Heartland Motorsports Park’s Grand Prix Course and Drag Strip in Topeka, Kansas; and Putnam Park Road Course in Greencastle, Indiana. Hammann and Ching will be driving a TLX Type S  that’s powered by a 3.0-liter turbocharged V6 that makes 355 hp (265 kW/360 PS), which is sent to all four wheels. The only modifications made for this event are the addition of a set of lightweight HRE wheels

Would You Pay $14k For An Electric R129 Mercedes SL With “Over” 50 Miles Of Range?

Image
Typically when people convert older cars to electric power , it’s to gain something out of the ownership experience. Be it power, comfort, mechanical simplicity, or just a silent ride, the conversions are typically meant to improve the vehicle in some way. This 1993 Mercedes 500 SL attempt to achieve that, but falls short in a few areas. Listed for sale on eBay , the car was converted to electric power in 2012 by a company called Electric Vehicle Concepts. The listing states that the car has 89,000 miles (143,232 km) on the odometer, but eBay’s vehicle history report indicates that that number was actually passed by the third of this car’s seven owners, and the actual mileage is about 114,000 miles (183,465 km) as of 2010 when the car was purchased by the seller. We’ll give them the benefit of the doubt on this one though, as they could have meant 89,000 miles on the electric drivetrain. Steep Rise In Catalytic Converter Theft Is Alarming Automakers

Image
Catalytic converter theft is plaguing the automotive industry, with a recent uptick causing Toyota to call for crime-busting legislation. According to Autonews , vehicles that have had their converters stolen are filling up dealerships’ service departments. Depending on how much damage is done to the vehicle to get the converters out, the repair bill can be as high as $11,000 for some vehicles. The National Insurance Crime Bureau reported 14,433 converter thefts in 2020 alone, a massive increase from just 3,389 thefts in 2019, and officials hinted that the number for 2021 would be even higher. The top choices for converter thieves are the Toyota Tundra and Tacoma. These vehicles can have up to four catalytic converters per vehicle, and their high ride height makes it relatively easy to access the underside. In addition to the ease of theft, Toyota’s converters themselves have higher concentrations of precious metals than other brands. Other favorites include the Ford F-series, R

The Fate Of BMW’s Compact Models In The Electric Era Is Still Undecided

Image
BMW has yet to decide about the long-term future of its compact model range in the electric era. The reason for this uncertainty is that EVs in smaller segments come with comparably low sale volumes and very tight profit margins, making it hard to justify development costs. Compact models like the BMW 1-Series have been crucial for the Bavarian automaker to achieve low emission targets, and continue to make sense with electrified powertrains. However, the equation changes when we add the R&D costs for a new EV-dedicated platform suitable for smaller vehicles. This would be inevitable at some point because even though conventional platforms can be converted to support fully electric powertrains – as confirmed by the upcoming BMW iX1 – they don’t have the same room for large batteries nor come with the clever packaging of dedicated EV architectures.
